We all have various passions and interest. I personally have a passion for gadgets. I love my Treo 700p and all it’s all-in-one functionality. I couldn’t imagine watching TV without my Tivo and my Ipod might as well be surgically attached to my hip. You get the picture. People gather at these websites and babble on about theories and feelings regarding a given episode or character. We do it for the love of our passions. But personally I would prefer to get paid to jabber on about treos and my favorite shows. Well now I can and you can as well!
Mylot.com is basically a glorified message board that pays its users a portion of the revenue they earn from ads placed on the site. A message board for those of you have never participated on one is as follows; It’s basically a webpage where people post a comment or topic very much like you do with email. But instead of going back and forth sending emails to each other, the comments and responses are posted on the webpage. Anyone can start a topic or respond to one that is currently being discussed. But most message boards won’t pay you for doing this.
Mylot.com is very different in that it does pay you to discuss anything you’re passionate about or anything you want to respond to. So if someone is talking about how a certain politician is a war monger and total idiot then you can chime in and give your two cents about it. Or let’s say you just saw a great movie and want to tell the world? You just log in to Mylot.com and post your comment and get paid!
Will you earn a lot of money participating in Mylot.com? It all depends on how active you are and how passionate you are about the things in your life. But even if you’re not really much of a yapper, you can still earn some nice money just referring some of your other buddies and friends that love to be online and yap about their interest. Because you’re paid based on how much money Mylot.com makes on advertising revenue there is no set fee per message you post or response you make. To begin with, I also was skeptical about making any good money with AdBrite(aff) and for many reason have taken a wrong approach right from the very start. I thought to myself that all I had to do is to place little snippets of code all over my website and then sit and relax and watch my money “rolling in”. If you have the same attitude don’t even think of marketing the space of your website for advertising ads from AdBrite, or for that matter with any contextual or pay per click advertising. You will end up disappointed with making just a few dollars if that.So here is how my “love affair” with AdBrite started. After researching few possibilities I zeroed down to two choices Tex-Link-Ads and AdBrite. The reasoning behind was that with these two you have more control on what ads will eventually appear on your site. Unless you end up showing only so called “network ads”, you will be asked to approve any purchase of ads on your site and therefore you can decline ads that do not correspond to the content of your website or you find otherwise unfit for your website. This kind of control is not yet present even at Google AdSense. While Google does and excellent job crawling and analyzing the content of your, site here and there some ads would “slip” that you would not always want them on your website. By approving each advertising from AdBrite, you also have an excellent opportunity for building a business relationships. Every good businessman will tell you that your best clients are the “return clients”.Unfortunately I was not approved for a publisher with Text Link Ads(aff), but I still am an affiliate with them and hopefully one day can become a publisher. So that left me with AdBrite. After registering new account I quickly placed the necessary codes on my website and started to await my big money rolling in. Also, in order to “beat” the competition I set the lowest possible price- I was asking one penny per day for a single ad. I figured that if I sold all space available I would make about $10 my first moth. But two weeks went by and I have earned only $0.08, no exaggeration.It was clear to me that my plan was not working- until something changed my attitude. That something was a Yellow Book, yes I still keep around one of those. As I was looking for something in it, I thought to myself “all space is sold in this book”. Fortunately for me, I have a friend who use to sell space in Yellow Book, but unlike me in order to make his money he did not sit around and wait for people to start calling in. He went around from business to business, old and new, selling the ads. Plus he had a huge advantage over me, unlike my website Yellow Book was known to people. I knew that with some work and marketing, I have a chance to make my website known. But I literally did nothing to sell the ads. So I decided to change my attitude and actively pursue my potential advertisers. Now I am trying to e-mail at least ten advertisers a day offering to advertise on my site. And it is starting to pay off, but most importantly I am building good business relationships which I hope will lest for years to come.So where do I find potential advertisers? Anywhere and everywhere. Some of them can be actively using AdWords by targeting specific sites some may already advertise with AdBrite. There is also a benefit from referring new advertisers to AdBrite. You will get $35 per referral. I write them and e-mail explaining what is my website is all about, telling them how many and what kind of visitors my site receives and offer to start a long lasting business relationship. So out of the my first check of $36.10, $35 I received from AdBrite for referring a new advertiser. And whole $1.10 from selling the ad itself. Since then I have adjusted prices for my ads and no longer sell them for a penny per day. I believe my work is worth more than that, and so should you!

By now you may have already read that in order to make any real money with advertising on your site you need at least 1000 visitors a day. While the more traffic you have (and if you can show it) the better off you are. But I sold my first ad via AdBrite at the time when my site was getting about 20 unique visitors a day. While big number of visitors is a plus, do not get discouraged because you don’t have 1000 visitors a day. If you are marketing properly your website, you may end up with more that 1000 visitors a day to your site. Just multiply what I made with only 20 visitors a day to my site by 50. Yes it is possible to make $1,800 a month just with AdBrite. I am not there yet and it will still take some time before I am making this kind of money. But I surely will be back writing and bragging the very first day I receive a check of $1,800. I give you my word on this one!So can you make real money with AdBrite? The answer is YES, you can. But in order to do so, you can not sit around and wait for the money to begin to roll in. You need to do something about it. Remember the Yellow Book? Your website is it! I tell people I make money with Adsense by driving targeted search engine traffic to my sites. I explain how to rank on top of the search engines using anchored backlinks. I tell people that social traffic is useless for making money from Adsense.

My friends thank me for all this free info by posting screenshots on forums like Digital Point so that I get a flood of useless traffic and an avalanche of troll emails.

I ask people if they would like to join a private forum and discuss topics that aren’t meant for public consumption. A week later a particularly useful network I mentioned is de-indexed. I guess I charged too much?

I ask people if they would like to be included in a little program I want to start. 374 people tell me they are “in“. I send them an email asking for a little info and tell them that they will have to help others. Everyone is fine with that.

They responded with comments and emails telling me they don’t agree with what I’m doing. They want to know why I’m not being constructive? They want to know why I’m wasting their time? They want to know why I’m not posting about the “I’m In” program. They want to know why I am trying to replace a serp page full of useless affiliate reviews with a page full of real reviews for a program that is outdated, unnecessary and relieves noobs of $300 a year just for a website. They want to know how to get ranked in the serp’s themselves - can I show them how? Basically all I read in the comments (I deleted all of them) was why was I wasting their time instead of helping them. Of course they were right - there was nothing in yesterdays post that could teach them how to rank on top of the serp’s. Nothing that would lead them to think that helping others might just be the way to making money online. There was nothing in it for them. And that is a good lesson learned. It’s nice to know just how much people appreciate all the free legit info I have handed out over the past two years.

Btw - Lissie is now ranking on page 1 for Site Build It Scam and will see some traffic on her blog. Of course this isn’t what I’m about… or what I try and teach people or what people want me to help them with. Noooooo…

Not surprising the regular crew of friends who are in this to succeed didn’t let me down. They came through, they always do and they once again showed why they are succeeding in this business. Everyone created a legit post that was fair and balanced - far more useful for searchers interested in SBI than any of the fake reviews. (and yet some of you thought this was wrong?) They showed their creativity in working it into their existing sites - related or not. I was also impressed with a couple of newcomers who took the time to create a new lens or blog just for the occasion.

The Magic of Writing Down Your Goals
Goal setting is one of the most important techniques of a successful businessman. If you have an online or offline business (or just a little website), you always have to ask one question from yourself:
“What can I do to improve my business?”

While answering this question, try to define exact steps, exact goals, and not just some general sagacity like “I want to have more traffic”. If you’ve already have realistic goals, write them down and put them in front of yourself, next to your computer. I know it seems like it wouldn’t make any sense, but writing down your goals helps you a LOT. After you’re done, just select the most important one(s) and focus ONLY on it!

Everyone knows that the best way to be successful in your chosen business is to promote it to as many people as possible. This will usually be done in the form of advertising. Either by posters, leaflets, newspapers, radio, TV or even good old 'word of mouth'. Exactly the same goes for making a success of your online business. This is no real problem to an established online marketeer. The secret is to try and reach a fresh audience who are looking for the opportunity or product that your site provides. But, what if you're just starting out and you have no money to get yourself started. What do you do?

Do not give up. Plenty of people have been successful even when starting with nothing, it just takes a little time. In fact the only thing that you need to get started is an internet connection, computer (obviously) and some time. You also need a goal. It could be to earn just a few extra bucks each month or to provide your family income for life.

Step One: Building a Website
The fact that you're reading this article shows you already have the right idea. Get yourself a website. Using your favorite search engine look for 'free blog site' or 'free website'. When you find one that you like the look of sign up and give it a try. Spend some time adding content and customizing it the way you like it. Remember that the content you add should be unique (do not duplicate or copy other sites). This will help you in the long run get a better page ranking and more visitors to your site. Once you are happy with you site you need to promote it.

Step Two: Getting Your Site Noticed
Not as easy as it used to be because there are so many sites competing for attention. If you create a site, add lots of content and update it fairly often it will eventually get noticed by the search engines but this can take many months or even years. This is where things get interesting. This essentially means selling advertising on your site. There are many articles on the web that can give specific details. The easiest to use are the 'ready made advertising campaigns' run by the big search engines and other organizations. Simply sign up and paste the code that they provide onto your site. You can also sell space directly to local businesses if you want too. If your site is interesting, has enough content and enough visitors you will soon be earning enough cash to move onto better things.

Step Four: Making a Living
This is generally considered the 'ultimate goal' for many online marketeers. Many fail at this stage because there are many (I mean thousands) of 'systems' claiming to make you rich overnight. To avoid the worst of these you will need to research the companies you are interested in. The number one rule for avoiding failure is:- do not spend more than you earn. This is the whole point of your hard work up to this point. You do actually want to make money not spend it. There are no get rich schemes. Steady growth is the key to long term success. If you use your head to make any decisions and not your heart then you will not go wrong.

There are people who read this that may say "this is too slow" or "too boring". This article was written to give some idea on how to start in this business without any startup capital. Remember there is no 'free lunch' here. All successful businesses take work. Here I am simply stating that in place of start-up capital or even an advertising budget you can succeed with time and hard work. There is a site that people can submit their own document and earn cash. The site is Oboulo.com. Anyone can join Oboulo.com to upload and publish document on Oboulo's knowledge network.

If you have any unused documents saved in the hard drive of your computer, you can upload them to Oboulo.com and make some money. Oboulo accepts any topic of document. There's no catch and I'm not trying to sell you an ebook. Or anything (read about conmen who do). I'm not even signing you up for a newsletter. This list was put together more as a laugh. It may change your life. Or it may annoy you enormously because of its er, brevity. I hope it does both.

Some ideas here are nice and have halos, others smell of dog urine ... but all these methods allegedly generate lotso dosho, and every single one is legal at least somewhere. There's overlap in everything so some ideas may be repeated (and some may not be covered at all) but I'm still maintaining there are 101 ways to make money online, partly because it makes a good headline. No, solely because it makes a good headline. It sucked YOU in, didn't it?

No, you won't get anything for nothing but there are a lot of things you can get for nearly nothing. Like getting to pick holes in my list. Go ahead. Pick holes and then link back here to show people how stupid I am.

I've put together a lot of these ideas from thousands of hours discussing businesses for sale with their owners. They've shared with me how their businesses operate, how they make money online, how they built their businesses up etc. They've given me access to their traffic stats, their earnings and accounts and tax figures. Many even gave me access to their Adsense or other "main earner" accounts. Some of those businesses were so irresistible that I bought them. And sold them. And bought others. It's a game. I love it.

Most of these business ideas can be run from anywhere in the world, even the United States, Australia and other non-English speaking countries. For consistency sake all figures are quoted in US dollars.

Each method is summarised in a single small para so appreciate it's not the complete unabridged version. And, no, I haven't tried each one so out of the 101 business models to make money online 102 may be completely dud. But, I do intend expanding - in due course - on some of the money-making ideas that worked for me.

More disclaimers will come when people sue me (suing can make you money, see #66)

Finding business ideas:

1. Spend all day browsing Site For Sale forums (like the list we have here) for the myriad ways people earn money online. People looking to sell their sites actually tell you how they make money! Pick one that suits you. Research it a bit, and away and start your own business. Or use a search engine to find ways to make money online. It seems to Finding some things - like nuclear bunkers - is easier than othersbe so easy that it's almost impossible to find someone who doesn't know how to do it. (But why stop at one search engine (SE)? Most people get to less than 1% of the top qualify info they're seeking because they use just one SE like Google, don't have the vaguest of ideas of the advanced search features available, and don't know the benefits to be had using specialised SEs, local SEs etc. )

2. Bundle the two above to tell other people how to make money online. They always want to know. It doesn't matter if you don't know yourself, you can still charge them for it. I obviously don't have a clue as I'm giving it all away. You can now ignore everything else I say. But don't go spending money on internet cons promising to make you a millionaire and here's how to spot them.

3. Be more inventive with your search. Look for small business franchise newsletters. Or for home jobs in your particular niche or hobby. (And check point #2 above for those specialised SEs). You can also go through the appropriate DMOZ categories (examples: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12)

But using "search" is just the start of the game. There are simply so, so many ways. We hope you hang around to find out.

4. Like the guy you can pay to stick a message in a bottle for you and throw it into the sea. He's made tens of thousands of dollars already. And there are several others like him in all parts of the world. Do you live near a sea or river? Or join the cleanup of those bottles and get your council to contribute.

Domains

5. The dot com gold rush made many millionaires but there's still plenty of money in domain real estate and still some good catches available. A good dot com may be difficult to find now. But there are a lot of gTLDs and ccTLDs from the .info to .eu to .tv to .co.in and they all present opportunities being discussed in several good forums. Put your thinking hat on, buy a famous word domain for a few dollars and put it up on the domain selling sites.

6. Lost your thinking hat? Hang out at SEDO. DNForurms, Afternics and other places where domains are bought and sold. Provided you learn enough about the market to recognise bargains you could make a living from just buying existing domains and reselling them.

7. If you're smart you'll run dictionary checks against available domain names and auto-check them against search volumes (using OST, Wordtracker etc.) for that term and Pay Per Click (PPC) rates in the major ad networks (example) to work out which ones are likely to be more profitable. If you can pick up the domain for a profitable term that's searched for often you can use a domain parking program. Or post a little bit of relevant content and get a link or two ... and the search engines will start sending you traffic. If the phrase people are typing in coincides exactly with your domain name it gives you a great head start with SEs.

8. If you're smart AND a linguist you'd be doing that in multiple languages. And not paying for any domain till you've tried it free for five days to see if it does indeed get any type-in traffic (and how well that traffic converts). After you've tried it for five days and dropped it there's nothing to stop you immediately picking it up again for another five day trial. Strange, but true. It's not kiting, it's legal.

9. Misspellings. Massive opportunities still exist in the misspelling/typo market. People trying to get elsewhere land on your site instead ... and you sell them stuff (or use the domain parking idea). Some even tempt fate by making PPC opportunties out of typosquatting on trademarks. Finding typos has never been easier. There are many tools that will find misspellings for you. How easy can it get?

10. Domain parking and type-in traffic: People sometimesThe witch has spoken guess at URLs. If they want a plumber they may try plumber.com though they've never used that site themselves. Find terms that people may be typing in (I will provide a detailed guide to this when I get a chance), buy the domain and populate it with ads. There are several ad programs to monetise your parked domains. Or combine this with the previous idea to buy plummer.com or similar typo domains to make money online.

11. Drop catches. People sometimes forget to renew their domains and these expire. Picking them up will give you some remnant traffic from sites that link to this domain/people who've bookmarked it etc. In some cases the traffic can be pretty high. Provided you're fast enough to replace the copyrighted content that was there with something else you can make quite a profitable business from doing nothing else but this.

12. A variation on the above. Sell the domain back to the previous owners. Note that you may want to tread carefully and get familiar with the rules for that TLD before you start sending off ransom notes. For example, with ICANN (domains that end in .com, for example) the moment you send the previous owners an email saying you've got their domain and you'll give it back for $10K... you've lost. It can't look like a ransom demand. Be reasonable and read the small print of the UDRP. No UDRP required if you're sitting hostage on myspace.com/theircompanyname or the equivalent at blogger, mybloglog, or other big destinations. LOL, watch them kick themselves and sack their web advisors who told them about taking the "dot info" but omitted to mention the importance of protecting the brand by owning the associated myspace directory (and others)! And it costs you nothing!

13. Run a domain management service. Hundreds of thousands of webmasters (or more) have a large portfolio of domains. A lot of them would like the boring bit taken out of their domain management. You can run their DNSes or just a service reminding them when each domain comes up for renewal. Or an automated monitoring service to tell them when one of their domains/sites is inaccessible.

14. Start a directory to list domains for sale. That's what people like SEDO do. You can get money just for allowing domains to be listed in your directory.

15. If you're running a service putting buyers and sellers of domains/sites in touch with one another you could get money for add on services (like providing escrow facilities). For ideas have a look at what existing domain intermediaries offer.

16. Run a domain research service. Wonder what happens when a manufacturer is looking to name a new model car? Or starting a new range of clothing? They need trademark and patent research but now they also need some domain research. Which of the literally thousands of combinations and misspellings (+ sucks.com) are taken and which do they need to buy? With a few of the free domain tools discussed on this page and one or two more - like free DNS tools - and a little time you could provide them a service they'd pay a lot of money for.

17. Start your own country: Whoa! yes, you're reading it right. If you've heard of Sealand (what is Sealand) you'll know that starting your own country is not that far fetched. Once you have your own WhackyCountry you can apply for a .wc (yuk) TLD. Sell millions of domains. Keep some for yourself. Ever wanted a Google.___?

18. Perform domain services for businesses and then send them a proforma (even if they've never heard of you). Explain that it's free this time but you'll gladly keep acting for them for a small fee. For example, there are thousands of big businesses whose half-wit webmasters/ developers didn't put in a redirect from the non-www to the www versions of their sites (or vice-versa). One entrepreneur made a few thousands just from pointing out to businesses how they were losing hundreds of customers every year who were landing on http://xxx-companyname.com and finding nothing there.

Buying and selling internet businesses

19. Many sites runs on "auto-pilot". A common price these sell for in site-for-sale forums is 12-24 months' worth of net earnings (silly price, but it's true). Provided you don't mess the site up you can recover your capital in as little as 12 months and then ... sell the site to recover your capital again. Double your capital every year. 100% return. Sack your stockbrokers. It really is a crazy world!

20. Site flipping doesn't require as much capital and expertise as many people believe. Like property flipping, Buffalo Walking Service - why do only dogs get to have fun?you buy one that needs a bit of TLC. Do it up, then sell it on for a whacking great profit. And, the beauty is you never have to deal with tenants!

21. How about cornering a little market? There are DMOZ categories with grandfathered sites (sites that have been listed for many years) which aren't being updated. If you can pick up a few sites in the same category and merge their content suddenly you "own" that niche. That opens a lot of possibilities.
